About

Thanks!

Wednesday, November 27, 1996 by Dave Winer.

Tomorrow is a major holiday in the United States.

Thanksgiving is so simple. It's not a religious thing. And it needn't be just a U.S. thing, there's no reason the whole world can't join in this one. We're not celebrating a victory over an enemy, or the birth of one of our leaders, our flag or our hard work. We're celebrating each other and the gifts we share. Pretty cool, I think.

We have a positive heritage. A national sense of humor. We have a thumbs-up, can-do attitude. This holiday is the one where we choose to focus on our best. Everyone wins on Thanksgiving. We're grateful for what we have. We let go of our fear, we make love, and we look forward.

Hey people -- let's laugh! We're winding down another year. It's that time again. It seems just a few weeks ago that I wrote my New Year's piece, Going For It. But then, realizing all that happened this year, it all happened so fast, where did the time go? But so much was accomplished. There's so much to be thankful for. OK.

We keep dreaming, some dreams come true, some don't. Pull away, go forward, back off. We do these things. But let's stay positive. See the love, go thru the fear. Put your heart into your life, be generous -- and let's be thankful for who we are and what we have!

This is Thanksgiving. Have a happy one! It's a simple noncontroversial holiday. Let's thank each other. Thank you! And let's thank ourselves.

Thanks, Dave!

Coooooool.

Dave
